I wouldn&#039;t be surprised to find that some nearby manufacturer was responsible for the gas.  Trichloroethylene could be said to smell &quot;sweet&quot;, and it will make you dizzy - possibly render you unable to walk for a while, or knock you out.  Ether has a sweet smell, and of course it will easily knock you out.  Some of these gases are heavier than air, meaning they could travel on the wind and then collect in low-lying areas.  It might be interesting to see whether the &quot;attacks&quot; took place in such areas.</description>
